After a busy week of trying to get ready and running the kids around, it was time to head to the airport. I had gotten an upgrade to first class which wasn't supposed to happen. I had called Delta early in the week to have them link my reservation with the other 4 and I had her note Lindsay's peanut allergy and also told her I didn't want the upgrade option. Lo and behold on Wednesday I got an email from Delta saying I had been upgraded. Ok, going up doesn't matter as I was sitting behind them. We get to the airport and try to check in curbside but they wanted to charge us for baggage fees when I had paid for the tickets with my Amex which gives me and each person in my party one free bag. Well the reservations were not linked and they couldn't fix it there so we had to go inside. They got it fixed and checked all 4 bags with priority tags since I was in first class. So, we are off to the gate feeling good about getting it all done and getting to the gate with time to spare. Teresa is exhausted from working 12 hours that day and was up at 4:30 AM, I didn't sleep well last night and the kids are up past bed time now and getting irritable with each other. The flight is overbooked and they ask for people to give up seats and take the first flight out in the morning. Finally they get it all straightened out and we board and have an uneventful flight. It is however now after midnight and I need to go to the ladies room after having two Bloody Mary's so I run in there and Teresa and the kids head around the corner to baggage claim. I did take a couple pictures that I will post later as the Pope is going to be in Philly next week and there are signs of welcome to him everywhere. I went to find Teresa at the baggage carousel. By now it was clearing out quickly and the last of the bags were coming up. We had all but one of the bags but soon it is obvious that the missing bag is mine and it is NOT on the carousel! Great. It is now 12:45 AM and we are standing at the Delta Baggage line and the lady informs me that my bag is still in Atlanta! It will go out on the first flight out in the morning. This bag has all my clothes and shoes, all of our toothbrushes, deodorant, hair products, razors, and the insulated bag we need to get the sandwiches my mom wanted.
I am trying to explain all of this to this woman and she said she can give us toothbrushes and apologizes profusely but the bag would not arrive in Philly until after 11 AM and then they would send it out to the hotel...great except we won't be at the hotel since we need to be on the road at 9:30 to go get the sandwiches and drive an hour and a half to the beach. She said they will deliver the bag to Sea Isle and we should have it by 2 PM....I am so angry and tired but resigned that there is nothing I can do...I have no clothes or shoes or anything to sleep in until the bag arrives...nor do I have a way to fix my hair and I have no makeup. We drag the luggage we have to the shuttle area to get the bus to Avis to pick up the van. Now it is 1:20 AM and picking up the van was relatively painless. We ask the guy at the desk if he can tell us how to get to the hotel from the parking lot and he has no idea. How do you work at a car rental agency and not know how to get to the things in a one mile radius of where you are? Teresa gets it up on the GPS on her phone and we get there with the only problem being Teresa didn't have the headlights on. We thought it was dark but it was literally a 3 minute ride from Avis to the Fairfield at PHL airport. The desk people are pleasant and had the keys ready and rollaway already in the room....it is 1:45 AM. We drag all the luggage to the room and get everything setup and open the package Delta gave us with the toothbrush, toothpaste, razor and numerous other things including a white T shirt. I took out the toothpaste and started to rant all over again. I swear the tube is less than in inch big and the top of the tube so small that I couldn't even get the security seal off of it because the tab was so tiny...OMG!!! Really Delta? I told Teresa who offered a larger trial size of toothpaste she found in her bag and I refused because I was mad and I wanted to stay mad...ugh. Too tired to get over it. I took the rollaway rather than be in one of the two queen beds and didn't sleep but maybe an hour the whole night. I was being eaten alive with springs from the bed and had restless legs and knee pain and besides that I was still mad about having to sleep in my clothes! Everyone else was asleep in short order. So ended our travel night.

Oh nooo, Mr. Bill! I'm sorry your visit has gotten off to such an ill start. Did you ever get your toothpaste open? Did you ever get your luggage? Did you get to Sea Isle? Inquiring minds...
ReplyDeleteI was trying really hard not to laugh when the toothpaste incident happened. I was already talking mom off the ledge😂
